Florida skunks are notorious creatures. They appear innocent by face, but they will take a few minutes to destroy your property. They are crazy diggers and skilled climbers, so you will find it difficult to protect your yard and garden from these terrible animals. Skunks are observed to have estimated weight between 1 pounds to around 10 lbs. Most of these creatures are found covered with black fur having white stripes on the back, but there are few rare skunks with gray and brown color combinations. Few skunks are observed to have many stripes on their body whereas few have only one strip on their tail that continues to their back portion.



Skunks are nocturnal animals; they come out for food search in the night hours. One of the scariest things to know about skunks is their anal scent glands that are always filled with odorous liquid and can be used as a defensive weapon against enemies. These glands are present on both sides of anus and experts reveal that they contain a mixture of sulfur with malodorous chemicals. This odor is quite dangerous and intolerable; skunks often use it to ward off predators and attackers. This odor cannot be removed with water or clothing as well, and it generally takes several days to go.

They have special muscles near scent glands that help them to spray the liquid at least 7 to 10 times. This liquid is not bad for its smell only rather it can also cause irritation on the skin, and in some cases, it can cause temporary blindness to the person or animals attacked by a skunk. Skunks do not use this spray so often, but when it feels threatened, this spray is their best weapon to stay protected. Note that, when this liquid gets finished in their glands, skunk takes at least 10 days to create more.

If we talk about Orlando skunk relationships, they usually live an easy going life. In the winter season, they prefer to live in groups, and they are not in favor of spraying on each other. They fight to each other rarely. In the rest of the year, they prefer to live alone and mark their own territories where they search for food and create their dens. Even when they meet each other, they greet each other well if they are familiar already. In case if they do not know each other, they will try to threaten each other for some time.

These animals use to fight during their breeding season. It happens when the female Florida skunk is not ready to breed, and it gets violent against the male. Also, when a well-grown skunk meets a baby skunk, the elder one may try to kill the baby. That is why mother skunk is always active to protect her babies by all means, and it can indulge in a fight with the male skunks. However, these animals do not like to spray on each other; they simply use their spray weapon to keep predators away.
